Although you should not attempt to ride the canyon corridor, I agree with Grand Canyon local. The sentencing was excessive. They bullied two young men who didn’t have the funds for an appropriate defense.

During the 12 years I was a ranger, I’ve seen violent felons get much less.

Despite what the media is printing, there are ridable routes inside the park. Just not over the rim. And there are some excellent along the rim single-track rides on Forest Service land on the north rim. The Rainbow Rim, which is not a part of the Arizona Trail, is one example.

hi guys,
sorry to hear about what’s happened. i’m myself a swiss cyclist. i cycled from switzerland to south africa (www.herve.pipifax.net) and crossed 7 national parks by bicycle. In africa, lions, rhino and buffalos but no one forbide me to doing it. it’s a shame that you got fined and put in jail for that. there’s no justice for good people but the rich and stupid will always be protected by the law.
i wish you all the best for the next steps of your trip. enjoy central and south america.

As a Grand Canyon local, the injustice is embarassing. You spend two days in jail while the druggies get away with $250 suspended fine? Banned from national parks for FIVE years???? Absolutely insane. The take people like you who have devoted your time to enjoying nature, and they rip it away from you. I could write pages on how the rangers can ruin on honest trip for the public. They don’t share very well. And then the judge imposes a sentence telling you to write positive opinions on your webpage!!!!! FIrst Amendment, you have the right to call this broken system, MORONS. If the judge wants you to post his opinion, you should quote him by NAME!!!! …and I haven’t even gotten started on the National Park Service attitude. So sorry it happened to you, dedicated outdoorsman.
